Queen's MRI Upgrading to Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma
The Centre for Neuroscience Studies is happy to announce the upgrade of our MRI facility. The current Siemens MAGNETOM 3T Trio MRI will be upgraded to the Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma Fit. The Prisma is a retrofit for the Trio, bringing state-of-the-art imaging to our facility. This upgrade will elevate our facility to the research standard, allowing us to tackle the most demanding MRI research challenges going forward and into the future.
The Prisma offers several upgrades and advantages, including:
· New XR 80/200 gradient coil with 80 mT/m @ 200 T/m/s simultaneously, on all three axes
· 20ch, 32ch, and 64ch (head and neck) coils in addition to our regular set of spine and body coils.
· High performance image reconstruction for advanced protocols such as Multiband.
· Significantly increased SNR, unprecedented long-term stability, and minimized acoustic noise and vibrations.
With this upgrade will come significant down time for the facility. This shut down will take place between August 12th to October 17th. Please plan your studies accordingly. Installation of the new MRI commences on September 17th, 2019. Training of the operators commences on October 15th, 2019, with human scanning being available later that week (October 17th, 2019). However, before September 17th, the facility will need to be altered and prepared for the upgrade. This preliminary construction may extend to August 12th at the worst case. We will receive firm dates on the preparation time in the coming weeks and will provide updates at that time.
