Dr. Ritsma is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Queen’s University and the Clinical Director of Rehabilitation at Providence Care Hospital. He completed his medical degree at Western University, his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa, and fellowship at the University of Toronto.

Clinically, Dr. Ritsma sub-specializes in neurological rehabilitation, including stroke, spasticity, ALS, electrodiagnostics (NCS/EMG), and peripheral nerve injury.

Academically, his areas of interest include:

- Stroke recovery - including rehabilitation programming and quantitative (e.g. robotic) assessment of function

- Virtual heath care - including clinical application and assessment of impact (e.g. patient/caregiver/provider experience and health outcomes)

- ALS care - including patient experience and outcomes

- Peripheral nerve injury / surgical intervention (e.g. nerve transfer) - including care delivery/pathways, recovery assessment, and outcomes

- Electrodiagnostic medicine – including evaluation of electromyographic properties of the neuromuscular system in neurological rehabilitation patient populations
