Except for the Lead, Student Leadership Committee, all positions are elected in a blind election in the fall of each year. The Lead of the Student Leadership Committee is voted on by the existing Student Leadership Committee and the Lead selected is a member of the existing committee. Students are selected by a blind election to ensure the most fair and equitable vote possible. Co-Lead: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Indigeneity CommitteeNumber of Positions: 1Overview: To collaborate with the EDII Committee to address how to overcome the systemic barriers pertaining to race, gender, social class, sexual orientation, ability, age, and religion within the CNS. Student Representative: Executive CommitteeNumber of Positions: 1Overview: To provide feedback and recommendations on the day-to-day activities of the Centre for Neuroscience Studies. This committee will oversee a fair, transparent and effective process for decision making. Final decisions will be the responsibility of the Director of the Centre based on the recommendations of the Executive Committee. Student Representative: Executive Education CommitteeNumber of Positions: 1Overview: To create and implement executive education programs for the Centre for Neuroscience Studies. Student Representative: Fundraising and Industry Relations CommitteeNumber of Positions: 1Overview: To launch fundraising initiatives and to oversee industry relationships within the Centre. Student Representative: Graduate Program CommitteeNumber of Positions: 1Overview: To oversee all neuroscience graduate program education and training policies, procedures and curriculum. To identify issues/concerns related to all aspects of the program including but not limited to application of policies and evaluation processes. Student Lead: Neuroscience Outreach ProgramNumber of Positions: 1Overview: The Co-Lead (student) of the Neuroscience Outreach Program (NOP) Committee will work with the Co-Leads (staff) to oversee the committee’s activities to ensure the successful ongoing operations of all of the outreach branches. The co-lead will work with staff co-leads to ensure that the Centre for Neuroscience Studies is appropriately represented in our community and at national and international conferences. Together they will also approve any new initiatives being launched under the umbrella of the NOP. *Note: This position is currently vacant as we revamp the Neuroscience Outreach Program due to Covid restrictions. Student Representative: Research CommitteeNumber of Positions: 1Overview: To support the research mission of the CNS including the development and support of identified research themes to create focus and foster growth through ongoing collaborations and funding initiatives. Student Representative: Safety CommitteeNumber of Positions: 1Overview: To review all safety issues and concerns at all physical locations of which the Centre for Neuroscience Studies houses research labs or offices. Student Representatives: Seminar Lecture Series CommitteeNumber of Positions: 2Overview: To establish the seminar series for the Centre for Neuroscience Studies and to oversee the smooth operation of the series. To regularly review best practices to ensure the CNS is fully supporting and meeting the needs of the student body. To encourage student participation in activities and events hosted by the CNS. To disseminate information to the graduate student body and communicate issues to the administration. To report to the Executive Committee of the CNS on a bi-monthly basis (or as per the schedule of the Executive Committee) and additionally as required.
